Mr Madalitso S. Duwa
The Procurement
Served | From January, 2010 |
Qualifications | BA, MSc, MCIPS, MCILT, MMIPS |
Madalitso Stella Duwa has been the head of procurement at the University of Malawi—The Polytechnic since 2012. In this capacity, he is responsible for the procurement of various materials that are needed to make the institution run. It is one of the more challenging positions at the college because there is always someone who wants something procured, and they cannot have it soon enough: they need it quickly. Duwa has the responsibility of getting these materials on time and within budget. In fact, he is more than a procurement officer because his position necessitates that he be familiar with purchasing, logistics, strategic management, and administration among many other expertise.
Duwa is a trained public administrator, having graduated from University of Malawi’s Chancellor College with a bachelor’s degree in public administration in 2002. Ten year later, in 2012, he earned an MSc. in Supply Chain Management from University of Bolton, United Kingdom. He is scheduled to complete studies this year for an MSc. in Entrepreneurship from the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST). An MBA from University of Malawi—The Polytechnic is also pending this year, as is a Diploma in Law from the University of Malawi, Chancellor College. He also has professional qualifications, including being a member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS), UK and the Malawi Institute of Procurement. He cites being chartered as his proudest achievement and acknowledges that the various credentials he is attaining have made him a formidable scholar.
Duwa came to the Polytechnic with a vast amount of experience, having worked in different capacities at various institutions. Indeed, he was always part of the management team at these institutions. His most recent position prior to coming to the Polytechnic was as company administrator at the Tobacco Control Commission (TCC). Also, at that institution, he was acting human resources and administration manager. His first job out of college was as an administrator and in human resources management with the Ministry of Local Government.
A Roman-Catholic faithful, Duwa is married with three kids, two boys and a girl. His first-born son just sat for the Malawi School Certificate of Examination (MSCE), the final exam of his secondary schooling. The daughter is in form two, and the last born is in nursery school. His wife is continuing her education and has a small business. When not playing social football (soccer) or shooting pool, Duwa likes to read scholarly articles or watch international football with friends. Besides his wife and children, Duwa shares his home with cats and dogs (no pun intended).
