Speaking during the donation, the UMSSA Public Relations Officer Martin Matululu explained that they decided to donate various items as a way of social responsibility to the community.

“UMMSA comprises of different members from different Universities in Malawi who from time to time meet and play different games. This weekend we are playing at Chancellor College that is why we thought it wise to come and give a little something from what the members have contributed,” he said.

Matululu further explained that they brought items like soap, juice, sugar and many more which are essential for the health and welfare of pregnant and nursing mothers in the maternity ward.

The group was received by the Deputy nurse ward in charge, Montfort Mumbulu, who thanked the group for the donation.

"This donation has come at the right time since we have patients who are coming from far away places. We also urge other organizations to follow suit since we have less privileged patients who lack such support from the public,” Mumbulu said.

One of the ladies who received the donation, Mary Flakson, thanked the group for their generosity which she said the items will assist them in their day to day lives at the hospital.
