DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD) in ENGINEERING

The Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS), School of Engineering is inviting applications for the following Postgraduate Programmes which will commence in April, 2022.

  1. PhD in Engineering (Industrial Management)
  2. PhD in Engineering (Infrastructure Development and Management)
  3. PhD in Engineering (Power and Machines)
  4. PhD in Engineering (Telecommunications)
  5. PhD in Engineering (Sustainable Engineering Management)
  6. PhD in Engineering (Transport Systems)

Applicants for PhD programmes MUST have: a relevant Masters or MPhil degree from a recognized institution. The PhD programme is for 3 years.

Fees and Expenses

US$10, 000 (Paid in MK Equivalent) for the whole PhD programme payable to the institution will cater for supervision and examination costs with an indicative figure of US $ 4,500 for research

APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR A PhD

A complete PhD or MPhil application package MUST INCLUDE: 

  1. A non-refundable application fee of MK10,000 for Malawian applicants and US$25.00 for international applicants; 
  2. A completed postgraduate application form; 
  3. Certified/sealed academic transcripts of all previous university courses taken including percentage scores where necessary; 
  4. Certified copies of relevant certificates; 
  5. An abstract of master’s research or dissertation (for PhD applicants only); 
  6. A concept paper relating to the proposed research topic which should not be more than 5 pages long. The concept note must include the following;
  • Introduction
  • Problem statement
  • Research objective
  • Preliminary literature review
  • Methodology 
  • references
  • 7.Sample academic writing i.e. publications, conference reports, etc which adhere to the broad conventions of academic publishing (i.e. contain an up-to-date review of relevant literature, a description of relevant research methods and an evaluation of results, etc.) and which identify the applicant as a significant contributor (maximum of 30 pages); 

8. A letter from an academic referee at postgraduate level and a letter from a professional referee;

 9. A detailed latest CV. 

Please note that PhD  candidates may apply for placement at any time of the academic year.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

A complete Masters Programme application package MUST INCLUDE: 

  1. A completed application form and CV; 
  2. 1 Academic Reference letter and 1 professional reference letter; 
  3. Certified /Sealed academic transcript; 
  4. Certified copies of original certificates by a Commissioner of Oaths or Lawyer or the University from which the candidate graduated.
  5. A non-refundable application fee of MK10, 000 for Malawian applicants and USD25.00 for international students;
